Hotels should offer free broadband access

An MSP has called on hotels to offer free broadband as standard as part of their offerings. Free broadband connections should be offered to guests at all hotels, it has been suggested.

John Park, MSP for Mid-Scotland and Fife, has written to VisitScotland and the British Hospitality Association over the issue, claiming such web services should be available as standard.

The Press Association reports that the politician is hopeful that both organisations will back his campaign on the issue and suggested that the provsion of such services is included in methods used to award stars.

He told the news provider that free broadband in hotels should be encouraged, adding: "This is about offering a better service to guests and making Scotland a more welcoming destination for tourists and business travellers".

Earlier this year, BT's Openzone division revealed that it has launched Wi-Fi hotspots across a range of Macdonald Hotels and Resorts.
